One of the things I love about Petaluma, is the way this community rallies to support each other especially during difficult times. I’ve seen that happen on more than one occasion and it always makes me feel so grateful to live here.

Tuesday night tragedy hit way too close to home when one of my daughter’s kindergarten buddies was in a car accident with her father while driving home on Highway 121. They were struck by a drunk driver, who veered into oncoming traffic, crashing into their car, killing his passenger instantly, and severely injuring this little girl and her dad.

Friday morning she underwent spinal surgery to fuse her spine in the hope that she will walk again. Her father, suffered two broken legs, and is also facing multiple surgeries. No news has made me more distraught this week than thinking about how one person’s senseless choice caused a family so much pain and suffering.

If ever a time to rally in support of a family in need this is it. I hope that you will take a few minutes and give whatever you can to the Mejia family. They really need us. Donations can be made to the Mejia Family locally at Exchange Bank or through this link. Whether you are near or far reading this, I hope you’ll reach out. My daughter would love nothing more than to run along side her little friend as soon as possible.
